Art & Craft Display 2012

Another super effort by parents, staff and pupils!

We had a wonderful display of pupils’ art in the Hall on Thursday and Friday, and the support from parents and familes was better than ever before.

We are all very grateful to the group of parents, led by Annemarie Harris, who spent several days setting up the display, running the coffee shop, the sweet shop and the raffle.

As well as showcasing the children’s work, the two days brought in €2,400 for the schools’ funds.

Room 1 Spring Walk

Spring Walk PhotoStory Room 1 The boys in room 1 went on a nice spring walk in the school garden. They really enjoyed looking at all the lovely colourful flowers. Afterwards they made their own daffodils. Take a look at our photos… Enjoy!

Money Money Money in Room 7

In Room 7, we are learning all about money. We have been sorting out our 1c, 2c, 5c, 10c and 20c coins. We made coin rubbings of each coin. We learned that we can swap a number of smaller coins for a bigger coin of the same value. We counted out all the money in our money jars and we used our money to buy items in the “Sweet Shop”.

Starry Night in Room 7.

Last week, we learned about the artist Vincent Van Gogh. He was born in 1853, more than 150 years ago! We looked at his painting The Starry Night. In this painting, Van Gogh used dark blues to paint the night sky. He used small stripes and loose dabs of paint rather than long brush strokes. We liked the swirling wind and spiral stars in the sky. Afterwards, we created our own paintings of a starry night. We used toothbrushes and matchsticks to paint the swirling wind and stars. Easter Egg Hunt in Room 6

On the last day of school before the Easter holidays we had a lot of fun hunting for eggs in Room 6. Patricia had hidden a plastic blue egg for every boy out in the garden. We had to work together to make sure that every boy found his egg. When we got back to the classroom we got to swap our eggs for some delicious chocolate treats. Yummy!
